WE BELIEVE STATEMENT FOR OUR YOUTH

  • We believe every player has a role to play on the team and each role is different and important. Getting players to accept and excel in each role is essential to the success of the team. The concept of “One Team” fully embraces this. We are in this together.

  • We believe building relationships and trust is what coaching is about.

  • We believe your beliefs determine your behavior. One of the most important jobs we have as coaches is to believe in our athletes, and then they will begin to believe in themselves and each other.

  • We believe that there is a lot more to basketball than just basketball. We (coaches) are building life skills on and off the court just as much as we are building basketball skills.

  • We believe that coaches and parents are working together to raise strong young men. We are in this together.

  • We believe that when a player is done playing basketball at Sherwood High School, they will be better prepared for life than if they had not participated in our program.

  • We believe that our coaching staff must model positive behavior on and off the court and I (Coach Tufts) will hold all of our coaching staff accountable in this area.

  • We believe players can control three things: their attitude (coachability falls under this category) and their effort and how hard they compete. We emphasize this on a daily basis on and off the court.

  • We believe we need to take on the mentality of the hunter. We will be the aggressor. We want to be the most enthusiastic team in the state. We can control that, no matter who is on the team.

  • We believe in defensive pressure covering the entire court.

  • We believe teams rise to the level of standards or fall to the level of tolerance of the leaders. We have high expectations of our athletes and coaches.
